【Festival origin】
Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday with several origin theories. The most popular explanation is that it commemorates the patriotic poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in 278 BCE. Locals raced boats to save him and threw rice into the river to feed the fish and protect his body, leading to the customs of dragon boat racing and eating zongzi. Other theories suggest it originated from ancient dragon worship rituals, or as a day to ward off evil and disease with practices like hanging mugwort and drinking realgar wine.
